Agape Flights meets Dr. Sanjay Gupta's definition of Success

I heard Dr. Sanjay Gupta state as the Chief Medical Correspondent on CNN July 12, 2010- While he was on his return visit to Port-au-Prince, Haiti- Dr. Gupta said, “the definition of success is NOT just getting supplies to Haiti…it IS getting supplies to the people.”

My perspective as a volunteer at Agape Flights…The Venice Florida based Christian Aviation Ministry…Agape Flights IS Dr. Gupta’s very definition of Success!!!!

My favorite sentence in Stephanie’s piece was her remark, “God blew my mind.”

I Was Saved to Serve...quote from The Sailors' Friend

HELP YOURSELF by HELPING OTHERS

“I was saved to serve”


Jesse Gibson was a sailor on the Welland Canal in the late 1800’s; and by Gibson’s own account, he declared himself a godless, careless sinner who was lead to Christ by "Thomas Bone The Sailors' Friend."

Thomas Bone, was know as the sailors’ friend or Mr. Bones but his real name was Dr. Gordon, who taught his protégée well; That, the highest purpose of a ministers life is, “that by all means he might save some.”


Up and down the Welland Canal Mr. Bones boarded ships for nearly 40 years to pass the “Good News” of the Gospel of Christ to the seamen. The elderly missionary Thomas Bones died in 1908; and, his friend the pastor, the “salty sailor,” his “son in faith,” Jesse Gibson wrote a book to preserve the techniques of the faithful and humble servant of Christ, his mentor Mr. Bones.

And like Paul’s work with Timothy centuries ago there were years of “faithful and tactful efforts,” with dividends that still pay off. In fact some 50 years ago a young lad named Dick Armstrong who was all of 17 years old) and another missionary would board ships on the Welland Canal to minister to the sailors. The two missionaries would share their time, they would share their love for Christ by talking with the sailors; and, Dick found occasions to play the accordion to share music with the sailors. Though times were different, the message of the Gospel of Christ was exactly the same and the “Sailors Friend’s ministry" set forth by Dr. Gordon in the late 1800’s was continued by Agape's own Dick Armstrong.

A Plane Full of Prayers...

"Bandit" Agape Flights Monday 7 a.m. flight was right on time!

Missionary Pilot Luke Sumner with Pilot and Agape Flights Board member Steve Koch were going through the final prep and check-list in order to “lift wheels.” Their mission …delivery of thousands of pounds of cargo laced with prayers for the missionaries, prayers for the plane, prayers for the pilots and the folks back home.





Monday May 17, 2010 and I was sitting at my post (the reception area for the Agape Flights) in the Hangar at the Venice airport. I am a volunteer at Agape Flights and my Monday shift is from 8 a.m. to 12 Noon. All of a sudden I hear the loudspeaker ring out! “For all those that would like to join us in a prayer for the departing flight to Haiti meet us at the aircraft.”

So because a picture is worth a thousand words…all I can say is AMEN!

Agape Flights new aircraft “Bandit,” the Embraer 110 was in the trusted hands of the new Chief Pilot Luke, and Steve. Agape’s “Bandit” is in her 1st few weeks of service and is able to carry 40 percent more cargo than the former Agape airplane. Bandit has been lighting up the skies, carrying hopes and prayers to the missionary families that count on Agape for critical supplies.
